➤ Personal profile: Chu Junhao, professor and academician, is an expert in semiconductor physics and devices in China, a researcher and an infrared physicist at the Shanghai Institute of Technology Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is currently deputy director of the Science and Technology Committee of the Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and dean of the School of Science at Donghua University.
➤ Research interests: long-term research in infrared optoelectronic materials and devices.
➤ Key results.
Junhao Chu has long been engaged in the study of infrared optoelectronic materials and devices, and has carried out material physics and device research on narrow band semiconductor mercury cadmium telluride (HgCdTe) and ferroelectric thin films for red detectors. He proposed the equation for the forbidden band of HgCdTe, which was widely cited and considered to be the most consistent with the experimental results. He established a theoretical model for the study of the two-dimensional electron-gas-energy band structure of narrow-band semiconductor MIS devices. The research on detectors, PZT and BST ferroelectric thin-film uncooled infrared detectors and thermal imaging have been successfully conducted, making great contributions to China's physical science and research.
The main research is on solid-state physics and the physics of narrow-band semiconductors. Systematic study of the basic physics of the narrow band semiconductor, in the optical properties, electrical properties, energy band structure, lattice vibration, impurity defects, two-dimensional electron gas research has achieved systematic research results, HgCdTe basic physics part of research results with the international leading level. The proposed forbidden band width formula is known internationally as the CXT formula (Chu, Xu, Tang).
He has published more than 200 papers, and his research results have been widely cited at home and abroad and have been extensively written up in scientific manuals and monographs published in the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and the former Soviet Union. He has been invited by Landolt-Bornstein Science and Technology Data Set as the person in charge of the revision of "Hg-containing compounds".
