Pujiang Innovation Forum Brings Canadian Cleantech to China for the First Time in North America

The theme of the forum is "Building a Clean Technology Transfer Eco-Chain", which aims to promote the transfer of clean technology between China and Canada and help Shanghai build a globally influential science and technology center.

The 2017 Pujiang Innovation Forum-Canada was held at the Toronto Convention Centre on May 16, 2017, Toronto local time, with the signing and opening of the National Technology Transfer Eastern Center Canada (Toronto). The forum was hosted by the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai, and the Department of Research, Innovation and Technology of Ontario, Canada, and was attended by more than 150 representatives from government departments, universities and research institutes, the clean technology industry, the financial and investment community, high-tech parks and incubators, technology intermediaries, and the media in China and Canada. The Pujiang Innovation Forum, co-organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Shanghai Municipal Government, has been successfully held for nine years. This year, the tenth Pujiang Innovation Forum will be held in Shanghai on September 23-24. In order to further enhance the international influence of the forum, this year's Pujiang Innovation Forum will be held in Toronto for the first time in North America. In recent years, Canada has world-leading technologies and industries in clean technology, energy conservation and environmental protection, new materials and other fields. Shanghai attaches great importance to these fields in the process of building a science and innovation center, and hopes to realize technology transfer and capital connection by joining hands with enterprises, research institutions and investment institutions from both Canada and China.

At the forum, Academician Xinhe Bao, Executive Vice President of Fudan University, shared the development trend of energy storage technology in China; Laura Field, Advisor, Ontario Ministry of Research, Innovation and Technology, and Robert Morris, Professor, University of Toronto, introduced the development overview and trends of clean technology and energy storage technology in Ontario respectively. As representatives of the investment community in both countries, Mr. Tang Mingyu, Executive General Manager of Fosun Energy Group, spoke about China's cleantech investments and Fosun's overseas investment strategy; Nicholas Parker, Founder of CleanTech Group and CEO of GAP Incubation Fund, introduced global cleantech development and investment opportunities in China and Canada. Mr. Yan Mingfeng, CEO of the National Technology Transfer Eastern Center (NTETC), explained the trend of diversification and internationalization of technology transfer from the perspective of the government's "fourth party platform". Luo Dajin, Director of the Shanghai Institute of Science, moderated the forum.

During the same period, the forum also held two supporting activities - the China-Canada advanced clean technology business exchange and matchmaking meeting, energy storage technology bilateral academic seminars. In the meeting, more than 40 Canadian environmental protection enterprises, investment institutions and scientific research institutions and nearly 10 Chinese enterprises for "precise matching" negotiations, the scene was warm, laying the foundation for China's enterprises to seek transnational technical cooperation.

The inauguration of the National Technology Transfer Eastern Center (NTMEC) Canada (Toronto) will become an important platform for building the technology transfer ecosystem chain between the two countries. According to the agreement, NTME and CIPC will jointly apply for policy and financial support from both countries for overseas technology transfer, park construction, etc., which will be used to introduce advanced technology and innovative projects to Shanghai, assist Chinese high-tech enterprises to explore the Canadian market, and provide a "soft landing" for science and technology projects of both countries. "The two sides will provide a series of services such as preliminary research, investment and financing, and project incubation. The two sides will also jointly launch the China-Canada Innovation and Technology Transfer Investment Fund, which will be used mainly for cross-border incubation projects and technology transfer.

In addition, the Blue Book "China's Environmental Industry Enterprise Development Status", produced by the National Technology Transfer Eastern Center and its clean technology sub-platform "Yumo Consulting", was released at the forum, in both Chinese and English, providing a professional and comprehensive research report for enterprises, scientific research institutions and investment institutions of both countries.
