In 2016, Shanghai vigorously seized the construction of innovation capacity, innovation resources and innovation system, and comprehensively deployed innovation chain, industry chain, capital chain and policy chain. In the first three issues, the report starts from the innovation chain, and works hard on cultivating a good innovation ecological environment, solidifying the foundation of science and technology, and deepening and activating the intrinsic motivation of the construction of science and innovation centers. In this issue, we will further analyze the traction demand for the industrial chain in the construction of science and technology innovation cities, firstly, to develop high-end industries to realize the leap of technology chain, and secondly, to speed up the layout of urban livelihood service system to enhance the sustainable development of the city.

High-end industry chain forward layout, continuous efforts to overcome technical bottlenecks

Key technological breakthroughs were a core element of the high-end industry end placement in 2016. This year, important results and revenue generation were obtained in the emerging high-end technology industry including new generation information technology, intelligent manufacturing, biomedicine, new materials and other fields. The lithography machine with great market application value, superconducting strip production line equipment, the world's largest single-jib crane ship "Zhenhua 30", the world's first quantum scientific experimental satellite "ink", the first domestic high-orbit three-axis stable meteorological satellite "Fengyun IV" and China's first pilot demonstration zone for smart grid-connected cars[1] etc. The breakthroughs in these major scientific and technological projects, in which local enterprises, universities and institutions have independently invested and participated in research and development, mark the beginning of Shanghai's strong innovation strength as a global science and innovation center, and will move into a new historical process.

Integrated application of scientific and technological achievements to create an innovative city's livelihood service system

Technology has made life better. To create a convenient and efficient urban ecosystem and create a livable environment for social livelihoods, technology has become more people-friendly and practical. Focusing on the fields of public health, modern agriculture, clean energy, medical and clinical, urban construction and management, in 2016, Shanghai completed a series of achievements in technology application and promotion, including a new national aquatic species with fully independent intellectual property rights, energy internet, prefabricated construction technology and intelligent manufacturing technology, to achieve convenience and benefit to the people.
